About the Project

Design West Engineering engaged in a design-build approach for an 80,000 SF, 3-story School of Medicine in collaboration with the San Bernardino County Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for the California University of Science and Medicine. The facility encompassed lecture halls, college rooms, exam rooms, laboratories, faculty offices, locker rooms, and additional supporting spaces. Our electrical plans and specifications covered various aspects of the School of Medicine Building project, particularly the completion of Construction Drawings for the Core and Shell and Site Improvements. Our scope included all-new site lighting, introducing new electrical service and utilities, and coordinating electrical infrastructure beneath the first-floor concrete slab. Utility coordination was primarily handled by the Electrical Contractor with some support from Design West. We collaborated on gate motors, IT/security cameras, EV chargers, and other equipment requiring power or data conduit connections. Our services extended to updating courtyard lighting, photometry, power, background, and circuitry to accommodate courtyard reconfiguration. Coordination with the mechanical engineer and IT/AV/Security disciplines occurred seamlessly. Field investigations, equipment gathering, and placement coordination were conducted by others, with Design West implementing the information into the drawings for power provisions to the equipment.

Plumbing design included drawings for above-grade floor plans, adhering strictly to the specified scope. Facility included offices, classrooms, lecture halls, staff breakrooms, restrooms, doctor exam rooms, cadaver laboratory, morgue, and bio-safety level 2 research lab. The research lab contains three lab hoods and water purification equipment. Scope included relocating all specified equipment and sinks from the existing site to the new location as directed by the client.
