Originally built in 1942, Valencia Grove was the first public housing site built in the San Bernardino. With its grand opening on September 28, 2016, Valencia Grove again broke ground as the first major redevelopment of a public housing community in the county. This project is a move away from the traditional public housing model toward a mixed-income community with multi-use educational and recreational facilities available to the residents.
Sitting on the corner of Orange Street and Lugonia Avenue in Redlands, CA, this $34 million revitalization involved demolition of original units and the use of factory-built modular units to transition the site to a mixed-use community. Valencia Grove now features 4 one-bedroom units, 27 two-bedroom units, and 33 three-bedroom units, and 21 four-bedroom units.
We are proud to have partnered with the Housing Authority of the County of San Bernardino and developer Housing Partners I, Inc. for this project. We provided electrical site distribution, site lighting, and utility coordination with SEC for this first phase of development. Other project partners included Hernandez Kroone and Associates as civil and landscape designer, ISE as structural engineers, USModular Inc. as the building designer, Silver Creek Industries as the modular builder, and Perera Construction as Construction Manager.
Additional development at Valencia Grove will result in a total of 228 units, effectively doubling the amount of housing available to low income families.
