About the Project

Design West Engineering (DWE) provided full-service commissioning for a multi-structure Public Safety Campus serving the City of Indio. The campus includes three primary facilities: a state-of-the-art Public Safety Services Building, a Communications and Dispatch Center, and a fully operational Fire Station. These facilities are mission-critical and operate around the clock, requiring highly reliable and efficient building systems. DWE’s commissioning scope covered an array of complex and interdependent mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, including packaged direct expansion (DX) HVAC units, advanced variable refrigerant flow (VRF) systems, and vehicle exhaust extraction systems critical to maintaining safe indoor air quality in the fire station. The buildings also incorporated energy-efficient lighting controls, domestic water heating systems for each structure, and emergency power infrastructure to ensure uninterrupted operation. DWE worked closely with design and construction teams to verify that all systems were installed, tested, and functioned according to the owner’s project requirements, placing special emphasis on system integration, reliability, and energy performance. Our commissioning process supported the City’s goal of delivering a resilient, high-performance campus that meets the demands of public safety operations today and into the future.
